What to measure before furniture removal
Record the item, doorway, hallway and stair dimensions that can change a pickup plan.

Start by writing down what is leaving the property, where it sits now and what stands between it and the loading point. That short inventory prevents most avoidable surprises.
Make one list before moving anything
Sort items into three groups: moving with you, staying at the property and approved for removal. Photograph bulky items and add rough dimensions. Keep documents, medicine, keys, valuables and anything under dispute out of the removal group.
Access checklist
- Door, hallway and stair widths
- Floor level and elevator reservation
- Parking or loading-zone distance
- Building hours and move rules
- Items that may need disassembly
Confirm authority and exclusions
Property owners and managers should confirm they have legal authority to remove every item. Virginia law includes notice requirements for property left by tenants, so an uncertain item should stay put until that question is resolved.
Protect the deadline
Work backward from the key handoff, inspection or moving-truck date. Leave time for an estimate, building approval and a second pass through closets, cabinets, storage areas and outdoor spaces.
